There is no rippling creek, but there is birdsong.

No cedar trees and big skies spread out before me, but the drip of early morning rain and a jungle canopy towering above.

Below there is no rock and cactus, but soft earth and pine.

Here in the quiet, alone with my soul, there is rest.

Still the sounds from the outside world creep in. The murmur of children. The sounds of cars and buses.

It is out there. My calling. My purpose.

And I must return to it soon.

But for now, for a time, it is just me, my Savior and the rustling leaves.

Here, alone with my soul, there is rest.

I must quiet the buzzing of my mind, the anxiousness of my soul.

Be at peace in the embrace of my Lord and King.

He will care for the ones left behind. He always has.

For now, be free and drink in the smell of a morning washed clean after a night’s storm.

My Savior is on the throne. And there is rest for my soul.
